Inhouse product
Evra is a contraceptive patch used
to prevent pregnancy. It contains two active substances: norelgestromin (6 mg)
and ethinylestradiol (600 micrograms). Its safety and effectiveness have been
studied in women aged 18 to 45 years.
How is Evra used? Evra is a transdermal patch applied across the skin. For the
first three weeks of the menstrual cycle, a new patch should be applied every
week, followed by a fourth patch-free week. The patch-free interval must not
exceed seven days. Apply the patch to the buttock, abdomen, upper arm, or upper
back, rotating the application site with each use. Full instructions can be
found in the package leaflet. Evra should only be obtained with a prescription.
How does Evra work? Evra contains two hormones, ethinylestradiol (an estrogen) and
norelgestromin (a progestogen), which prevent ovulation, alter cervical mucus,
and thin the endometrium (the lining of the womb). It functions similarly to
oral contraceptive tablets but offers the convenience of weekly application.
